Clarkes on the Macleay

During his term as Chairman of the Land Board, Mr Brierly had never held a Land Court but a Clarke was on the list. He congratulated the whole clan of Clarkes for sticking to the land and expending thereon; and he smilingly concluded that if this district were ever erected into a separate State it should be called Clarke.
