Clarkes on the Macleay

During his term as Chairman of the Land Board, Mr Brierly had never held a Land Court but a Clarke was on the list. He congratulated the whole clan of Clarkes for sticking to the land and expending thereon; and he smilingly concluded that if this district were ever erected into a separate State it should be called Clarke. Alexander Henderson Award – Second prize

Eugenia Rauch, author of Clarkes in Australia: The family of Thomas and Ellen Clarke, received second prize in this year’s Alexander Henderson Award.

The Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies honours the memory of respected genealogist, Alexander Henderson (1883-1968) , by presenting to the person(s) producing, in the opinion of the AIGS, the best Australian family history submitted for the award. Strong emphasis is placed on a pre-Australian component.

The winners and place getters for this year were announced at the Alexander Henderson Award Presentation Dinner held in Melbourne on 25 May 2012.

Katya Quigley interviewed Eugenia live on ABC Mid Coast Radio on Tuesday 29 May, and the Macleay Argus newspaper ran a story on Friday 1 June.
